One night reflecting on pessimism in times of pandemic, I wrote the following:
We must do justice to the brethren who fall into this lesson, learn and prove what we are made of and what we are capable of. I think of the privilege of being at home and a few steps away from having water or electricity, of the privilege of having medicine and being able to entrust my life to another human being. The privilege of communicating these lines, of having at my fingertips the legacy that for millennia we have built as a species and that makes us great: the cultural heritage of humanity. We stand on the shoulders of giants who have brought us this far. Now it is up to us not to be intimidated and to grow. I know we can, we always have been able to #GoHumanity.
Then it was inevitable to think that it was a selfish optimism, born only of my own privilege. I reflected on those people who still live in obscurantism, not only because of the lack of electric power, but also because of the lack of Internet and devices.
So how can the cultural heritage of humanity be brought to people without access to the Internet? Educall was born from this question.
No one loves what they don’t know; if a child has not been delighted by listening to poetry, music or a fascinating story that blows their imagination, they can hardly dream of being a poet, musician or the next giant.
My dream is that no matter in what condition or where he or she is, any child can stand on the shoulders of giants like Newton, Borges or Bach, and have access to the best education on the planet.
My dream is that you and all human beings will have access to the legacy of humanity at your fingertips.
My dream is to ignite in you the flame of knowledge.
My dream is that in one of our #CallsToEducate you will have an epiphany.
